There was an international tournament, I think it was in 2014, with several irregularities. I am only going to talk about how Steve was demonized, and how this caused him to leave.
There was a pre-arranged draw, which Steve was demonized within the board for reporting to FIDE. I don't see where he had any choice in the matter. Steve is an ethical person, and in the end, that was what he was going to do. Those who were at fault were the players who pre-arranged the draw and the other arbiters who failed to report it. It was rumored that other games were also unplayed even if it could not be proven.
To the best of my knowledge, this was the situation:
1. Steve was the arbiter for the day when the game was supposed to be played.
2. Steve received an email from Marcus saying the players had already agreed to a draw. Of course this was key evidence in FIDE's decision.
3. While some contend that the game had actually been played on another day, there is no evidence that that was so, and even if it was, the game would still have to be disallowed because FIDE does not permit three games to be played in a day in a norm tournament.
I would prefer if Steve stayed and the unethical people would leave. What about you?
